Cavendish makes it a perfect day

Mark Cavendish(HTC) got his 5th win of this year’s Tour de France on the traditional final day in Paris. With tradition, the race is neutralised until the last 40KM for photos and a glass of champagne for the winners. Cadel Evans (BMC) showed off his yellow jersey as traditionally no one attacks the yellow jersey on the final stage.

Cavendish not only had to worry about the stage win but also to keep his green jersey of Rojas (Movie Star) who was within striking distance of taking it off him on the final day. But there was no chance of this as a break looked to have stayed away in last ditch attempts of a victory on the Champs Elysiee. Cavendish had other ideas and the HTC train were back in the regimented line out with Cav ready to strike. Then as in the previous four occasions with 200 meters to go the Manx missile hit, similarly behind no one could respond and he left Edvald Bossan Hagan 2nd and Andre Greipel in 3rd. Cavendish celebrated being the first British rider to have ever won the green jersey and his boyhood dream fulfilled.

Cadel Evans(BMC) took the overall victory after his fantastic time trial yesterday with Andy Schlek 2nd and Frank Schlek (Leopard Trek) in 3rd. After an action packed three weeks of thrills, spills and lots of pain it all came to the traditional end to the greatest sporting event in the world.
