Stars Rocked By Injury Blow

DUNDEE STARS will seek a replacement following a devastating injury blow to new defenceman Craig Mitchell.

The former Hull Stingray, who only arrived on Tayside this summer will miss the entire forthcoming season after suffering a torn labrum in his shoulder.

Although it’s unknown whether the 20-year-old requires surgery, it has prompted coach Dan Ceman to move into the market for a replacement.

Ceman said: “Craig’s injury is unfortunate, but I’m pleased we’ve found the nature of the problem although there is no-one more upset about this than him.

“He has asked to stay on and help in an off ice capacity and that says a lot about his personality.

“However we are looking to bring in a replacement and we will move quickly to fill the spot vacated on the back of this.”

Mitchell arrived in April after two years at Hull Stingrays and played almost 80 games for the Yorkshire side, where he teamed up with brother Lee.

His progress last season was curtailed by a broken arm which kept him out for almost two months last season and according to Mitchell, wasn’t treated correctly.

Mitchell slammed: “I am gutted this injury will stop me from playing, but pressure to play and the lack of treatment at Hull last year has set me back.

“It’s disappointing I won’t be involved and I’m hopeful of still being around next year and help the Stars fulfill their potential.”

That`s a shame. Although not a fan of Dundee, no-one likes to see anyone get long-term injuries like this.Best of luck Craig and hope to see you playing sooner, rather than later.
